The Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, has expressed appreciation to retired staff often referred to as “senior citizens” of the University, for their invaluable contributions to the institution’s advancement.
Prof. Mrs. Dickson made the remarks during an interactive meeting with the senior citizens, led by Dr. Bukari Ali from the Geological Engineering Department.
The meeting provided a platform for the members to engage with University Management, share insights from their experience, and deliberate on issues of mutual interest.

She commended the group for their years of dedicated service, wisdom, and institutional knowledge, which she said continue to enrich the KNUST community.
“I clap for you, senior citizens. You have seen it all. For some of you, you have had the unique opportunity of being in this university for so many years more than some of us so when you say it, we know its severity. You know what you’re talking about, so we don't take your words lightly at all. When you say them, we reflect on them, and when we listen, it works for the university. So, we thank you,” Professor Dickson said.
She expressed appreciation for their hard work and contributions to the university, adding:
“You have worked so hard for this university. But the fact remains that without your contribution, this university cannot run.”
The Vice-Chancellor assured the members of Management’s commitment to work with them and to continue implementing measures for improvement. She urged them to maintain and even enhance, their passion and dedication.
“We will work with you continuously to improve, as I have already submitted. It is all about quality, continuous improvement every day. The love that you have always injected into your work, please let it continue. In fact, if you can add more. We are praying for a long life with good health. Whatever we can do as a university to support that drive, count us in.”
She encouraged them to take part in the activities of the Wellness Centre.
“It is a good opportunity when we meet and look after our health. We cannot give what we don’t have. We need to be alive to look after these students. That is very paramount,” she said.
Prof. Mrs. Dickson also attributed the university’s achievements to their collective prayers.
“When KNUST is mentioned, for all the good reasons even for the bad, we know that it would have been terrible but for the fact that you are always on your knees, interceding for this university. For that also, I salute you,” she said.
She encouraged open dialogue between the group and Management, assuring them that their voices would continue to be heard.
“Even after this conversation, I can assure you it will not be the end of the issues. Let us continue to give feedback,” she added.
